I should be nowhere near Loeb’s record let alone beating it by over 2 seconds.

No chance of death makes you more brave in video games.

But Loeb should have me beat on skill and he knew the course better than I do. I have seen it about 4 times in the last 10 years.

Certainly better than back in Dirt 1. The top times on the mixed surface course were ~6:30 in Rod Millen’s Celica.

There were glitches to get to those kinds of times. Better than dirt 2 where all the course records were <1 second.

Honestly I’m pretty sure racing drivers don’t fear death. In the olden days of racing, multiple drivers died pretty much every year on the pro circuits.

It’s not exactly a sim. It’s a simcade.

Short answer is racing games don’t have 100% true-to-life physics, the tire models alone are very simplified as tires are a very, very tricky and complex subject.

On the original DiRT I could consistently get to the top in 7-7:30 (on the runs where I didn't take a wheel off in the first mile)

That’s way better than I ever did. I only got to about 9:45 but I haven’t run the stage since 2009 or so. I wasn’t very good back then. Maybe I have to hook up the 360 and give it another shot.
